Who we are

Centences is an anonymous thought-sharing platform operated by Centences. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. If you have any questions, contact us at thoughts@centences.com.

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text.

When you post a Centence, we store the content of your post, the time it was posted, and the account it was posted from. Posts are displayed publicly but anonymously — your identity is never attached to your posts on the platform.

If you upgrade to a paid plan, your payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. We receive a subscription status and customer ID from Stripe to manage your account.

How we use your data

We use your email address to send transactional emails such as account confirmation, password resets, and notifications about your posts. We do not sell your email address or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.

We use your account information to enforce rate limits, apply your plan's posting privileges, and moderate content on the platform.

Anonymity

Your posts are displayed anonymously. No public-facing part of Centences will ever display your email address or link your identity to your posts.

However, internally we do maintain a link between your account and your posts for moderation and abuse prevention purposes. If required by law, we may be compelled to disclose this information to authorities.

Advertising

Paid plan members (Thinker and Philosopher) will never see ads on Centences. Free (Penny) plan members may see occasional, unobtrusive advertisements in the future. We will notify users before introducing any advertising. We do not share personal data with advertisers.

Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days. Posts you have made may remain on the platform in anonymized form unless you request their removal.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate Centences: Supabase for database and authentication, Stripe for payment processing, Vercel for hosting, and OpenAI for content moderation. Each of these services has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

Cookies

We use cookies and local storage to maintain your login session and remember your theme preference. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. To request any of these, contact us at thoughts@centences.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email if we make significant changes. Continued use of Centences after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
